Isadore Goldman & Son: A Century of Law : Part Five
In the aftermath of World War II destruction, the legal firm of Isadore Goldman & Son swiftly re-established itself in London's High Holborn - mere yards from founder Isadore Goldman's original 1895 office.
Son Joseph "Joe" Goldman was now senior partner, joined by his lawyer son Alfred Goldman and the energetic Simon Mundy in 1945. This new post-war partnership steered the firm into a dynamic phase of growth.
Alfred Goldman's chance defence of infamous murderer Donald Hume in 1950 brought intense public scrutiny. Afterwards, the firm strategically declined further criminal work to focus on core specialties - insolvency law, conveyancing and commercial matters.
Developing international connections, the firm began attracting clients from the Middle East, Europe, the USA and Asia by the 1960s and 70s. A serendipitous Danish connection was also forged.
At home, a strong litigation team handled insolvency cases - maintaining Isadore Goldman's specialty. Conveyancing, wills, probate and commercial work flourished in the other department.
Modern technologies transformed old-fashioned office ways. In 1985 with 7 partners and 35 staff, the firm celebrated a century of maintaining a thriving family operation - a remarkable achievement in an age of mergers and turmoil.
Visionary founder Isadore in 1885 could scarcely have envisioned his lawyer grandson Alfred Goldman steering the firm into a dynamic second century. But some things remain unchanged today - personal service, legal excellence and independence.
Today Isadore Goldman is a thriving Insolvency and Restructuring Practice with offices in London, Norwich and Portsmouth. The commercial property and corporate arm of the business was separated out into sister brand Isadores in 2022, allowing Isadore Goldman to continue its focus as specialist Insolvency, Bankruptcy and Restructuring lawyers.
