Emily Drake
Emily joined IG in 2024 as a Director having previously been a senior legal adviser at a top 50 listed law firm.
Emily is a disputes and insolvency lawyer who has strong experience and expertise in advising on contentious insolvency and complex commercial disputes which has typically included cross border assignments involving jurisdictions such as the BVI, Cyprus, Switzerland, the US and Russia. Her expertise also includes fraud and asset tracing claims, complex property disputes, enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards and tax avoidance claims. She has successfully litigated in the High Court, the LCIA and coordinated the litigation strategy for cases before the courts in Cyprus and the BVI.
Emily’s recent experience includes:
Assisted in devising and coordinating a multijurisdictional recovery project to recover several hundred million dollars stolen from the UK Government using a rogue bank in the Dutch Antilles.
Successfully obtaining and enforcing judgments obtained in the UK for office-holders against parties out of the jurisdiction who had conspired to defraud UK Government.
Acting for an ultra-high net worth individual and the company they beneficially owned in respect of an alleged $1billion fraud, providing strategic advice in relation to the progression of the arbitration and High Court litigation, together with the enforcement of any awards against assets in a number of jurisdictions including the UK, BVI, Russia, France, USA and Switzerland.
Successfully pursuing claims arising from an international fraud in the financial markets, commodities trading sector on behalf of the office-holders of four insolvent entities.
Advising on the overall strategy of the provisional liquidation and liquidation of a company owning a very large piece of developmental land, including claims against the directors who had falsely reclaimed millions of VAT, appeals to the Tax Tribunal and the claims of secured and unsecured creditors.
Conduct of a highly complex and fast-moving claim in the High Court relating to the purported sale of a company’s sole asset by a mortgagee, including an appeal to the Court of Appeal.
Advising on and conducting subsequent claims against purported secured creditors of a company.
Providing strategic advice to a governmental department in relation to a multijurisdictional asset recovery project arising out of a number of failed institutions.
Emily has a particular interest in contentious trust matters, cryptocurrency claims, and has gained the Chainalysis Cryptocurrency Fundamentals Certification.
She is a member of R3, IWIRC (London network), Insol and TL4.
