Nick Oliver
Nick has become particularly known for dealing with complex insolvency disputes and litigation, insolvency investigations (particularly in a fraud context) and technical insolvency and restructuring advice.
In addition to acting for individuals and company directors (including defending insolvency related claims and disqualification proceedings), he has provided technical advice on insolvency-related matters to clients including insolvency practitioners, banks and finance companies, local authorities, HM Revenue & Customs, landlords and trade creditors. Nick also has considerable experience in advising businesses in relation to complex asset and debt recovery issues.
Nick is a member of Isadore Goldman’s Director Advisory team. Within the team, Nick’s particular specialism is in advising directors subject to claims by liquidators. He has successfully represented directors in relation to a variety of claims including claims for wrongful and fraudulent trading, breaches of duty and claims related to tax issues. He has advised in numerous insolvency situations where tax schemes have been utilised, including Employee Benefit Schemes (EBTs), Employer Financed Retirement Benefit Schemes (EFRBS) and ‘Loan Note’ schemes. He has advised both liquidators and directors/employees on the issues and claims that can arise in such situations, including the direct claims by HMRC against directors/employees.
Nick has dealt with a number of high profile bankruptcy and insolvency cases including acting for Michael Barrymore in relation to his bankruptcy, and advising the trustee in bankruptcy of Asil Nadir.
He has been ranked by the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners ‘Client’s guide to the UK legal profession’ as a leader in his field for a number of years.
Nick is a fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3), to whom he has also lectured, and was elected to R3’s Southern Region Committee in December 2013. He is also a member of the Insolvency Lawyers Association.
